Terms of Use

License to use

You may download, install, and run Pode on Macs you own or are authorized to use. The application binary itself is provided free of charge under these terms; the open-source libraries it depends on are listed in Settings → About, each under its own license.

Podcast content

Pode subscribes to public podcast RSS feeds and plays audio directly from the URLs those feeds publish. Podcasts remain the property of their creators. Pode does not host, redistribute, or mirror any podcast audio, and does not strip advertising. Use Pode in a way that respects podcasters' work.

Transcripts and AI output

When you transcribe an episode locally, or generate an AI summary, takeaways, definition, or answer, the output is a derivative work of the underlying podcast. Pode keeps it on your device for your personal listening, research, or note-taking — which generally falls under personal-use exceptions in most jurisdictions. If you intend to publish or commercially distribute transcripts or AI output derived from someone else's podcast, you are responsible for obtaining whatever rights that requires. Pode takes no position on, and accepts no liability for, how you choose to share derivative material.

AI providers

AI features (summary, takeaways, concept definitions, Q&A) require you to configure an API key for a third-party provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, or an OpenAI-compatible endpoint). Pode calls those providers directly from your Mac. You are responsible for any charges your provider bills against your key, for complying with that provider's terms, and for the accuracy of whatever the model returns. Pode does not validate, edit, or filter the output beyond parsing it for display.

No warranty

Pode is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Transcription and AI-generated content may contain errors, omissions, or hallucinations — do not rely on it for safety-critical, legal, medical, or financial decisions without independent verification.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the author of Pode shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the application — including but not limited to API charges incurred against keys you have configured, loss of data on your device, or damages arising from reliance on AI-generated content.

Feedback

If you send bug reports or feature suggestions, the author may use them to improve Pode without owing you anything in return.

Changes

These terms may be updated as Pode evolves. Continued use of the app after a substantive update constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
